Pharmaceutics is the study of relationships between drug formulation, delivery, disposition and clinical response. Pharmaceutics is the discipline of pharmacy that deals with all facets of the process of turning a new chemical entity (NCE) into a safe and effective medication. Pharmaceutics is the science of dosage form design. Pharmaceutics deals with the formulation of a pure drug substance into a dosage form.
The department of pharmaceutical chemistry is involved in taking lectures in the subjects of general chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmaceutical medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical analysis for the undergraduate students in the four year B. Pharm course. The department is involved in teaching pharmaceutical analysis to the undergraduates. The curriculum includes extensive lectures and laboratory sessions to ensure that students can connect theory to practice and apply their theoretical knowledge gained. The knowledge and expertise obtained by students from this department will aid them in synthesis, standardization, interpretation of drug interactions and analysis of chemical substance for medicinal use.
The Department of pharmacology is involved in research and academic activities. The emphasis is placed on the principles of drug action and on the reactions of living processes to drugs. Our mission is to provide quality preclinical and clinical education in pharmacology and therapeutics for medical students, to educate and train graduate and postdoctoral biomedical scientists, to carry out basic research of recognized excellence, and to participate in governance and leadership in the College of Medicine at The University of Arizona and in appropriate national scientific and professional societies.Toxicology, a division of Pharmacology, is concerned with the adverse effects on life of therapeutic drugs and other chemicals. Toxicology is of increasing relevance to modern society. There is also a focus on information technology with development of multimedia teaching methods used for theory and Practical’s.
Pharmacognosy is an important discipline in Pharmacy curriculum and deals with the study of crude drugs that includes plants, animals and marine sources. The department is engaged in undergraduate teaching and has a well-equipped laboratory and medicinal garden. The department of Pharmacognosy is engaged in imparting knowledge in the various fields of natural medicinal products through theoretical and practical mediums. We also have a Medicinal Plant Garden which is enriched with a variety of medicinal herbs.The department is well equipped with an undergraduate research laboratory, a crude drug museum & herbarium specimens of several plant materials; and modern equipment’s essential for extraction and isolations of natural medicinal products.
