About the Department

The Department of Engineering Science started in the year 2009 is well equipped for teaching the basic principles of Applied Science. It offers good practical training in Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry, Engineering Mathematics and some basic engineering subjects like Engineering Mechanics, Systems in Mechanical Engineering, Basic Electrical Engineering, Basic Electronics Engineering, Engineering Graphics, Environmental studies, Project Based learning, Programming and Problem Solving to meet the academic requirements of engineering course. The Department has a very strong commitment to feed the budding engineers with updated knowledge. It provides an environment conducive for developing the skills of the students. The staff members are very enthusiastic, dynamic and committed towards all the activities of the department plans.

The Engineering Science Department is intended to instill a solid foundation of fundamental concepts of various disciplines in the mind of the learners, so that they proceed to rest of their years of study with up to date knowledge and training of basic engineering skills. Along with our highly qualified faculty, we have well established laboratories that not only cover the curriculum but also inspire students to learn beyond it, thereby developing their theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject and equipping them with the skills necessary to become successful engineers in the future.

Programme Outcomes (POs)

  • PO1 – Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • PO2 – Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • PO3 – Design / Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • PO4 – Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • PO5 – Modern Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • PO6 – The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • PO7 – Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • PO8 – Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  • PO9 – Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  • PO10 – Communication Skills: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

Physics lab

The Physics lab enable students to experimentally verify fundamental principles of physics relevant to engineering. Develop data analysis, error calculation, graph plotting, and lab report writing skills. Strengthen understanding of applied physics in domains like optics, electronics, semiconductors, electromagnetism, and materials science.

Chemistry Lab

The chemistry lab provides students with hands-on experience in experimental chemistry, enabling them to understand theoretical concepts through practical application. Develop laboratory skills and safety awareness and conduct basic and advanced chemical experiments. The lab is well equipped with all the chemicals and glassware as per the norms of the Savitribai Phule Pune University. All the instruments are not only useful for the regular practical’s but also for research work.

Computer Lab

A computer lab is a dedicated space equipped with multiple computers and related technologies, software and smart board, designed to facilitate learning, research, and digital skill development. Computer labs are equipped with desktop computers that often include specialized software for programming, graphic design etc. All labs offer internet access, enabling students to conduct research, access online resources, and utilize cloud-based applications.

Basic Electrical Engineering Lab

Basic Electrical Engineering lab provides hands-on experience with electrical circuits and components. Familiarize students with basic electrical instruments and reinforce theoretical electrical engineering concepts through experiments. Build skills in circuit analysis, power measurement, and electrical machine basics.

Basic Electronics Engineering Lab:

The main objectives of Basic Electronics Engineering lab are, Introduce the fundamental principles of electronic components and circuits. Develop students' practical skills in handling electronic instruments and reinforce theoretical concepts through hands-on experimentation. Familiarize students with analog and digital circuit behaviour.
